REPORT ON EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE ON WNCC CAMPUS FOR THE MONTH ENDED 30TH APRIL 2017.
CANDLE NIGHT
The candle night is an annual event on campus that precedes all other activities marking the end of journey that the graduating class embarked upon at the outset of their training in WNCC. The one for this year took place on 29th of March, 2017, in this school hall.
Some of the activities that happened before the candles were lit, was the handing over of the baton of leadership to newly elected leaders. The outgoing leaders were commended for a job well done while their tenure lasted. Also, the newly elected leaders were prayed for and given a brief admonition that will help them carry out their duties effectively.
Thereafter, the President of the college charged students to remember how they started and the good virtues that have been deposited in them in the course of the training.
To draw the curtain for the night, the candles were lit and pictures were taken while singing “Send the Light” the closing prayer was given by Bro. Adeleke.
PRACTICUM
On the 31st of March 2017, the graduating class of 2016/2017 academic year were sent out in fulfillment of the college’s mandate to preach the gospel to lost souls. Twenty-nine students were sent out to congregations in Lagos, Ogun, Edo and Delta State.
Reports received st the end of the 1 month internship showed that students intern did well while portraying the attributes of commitment, perseverance and zeal in the accomplishment of the tasks set before them. Six souls were baptized during the exercise.
LIKEMINDS/WNCC YOUTH RETREAT
The Annual Christian Youth Retreat organised by the Likeminds in conjunction with the WNCC took place on 14th – 16th April, 2017. The theme of this year’s retreat was “In This Time”.
Many youths from different congregations across the country were in attendance. The keynote speaker for this year’s event was Dr. Abiodun Owolabi who spoke on “Equipping the Christian Youth for these Times”.
The Sunday sermon was delivered by Bro. McIntosh Chimeziri, as the retreat came to a close. Also featured at the retreat was an interactive session on the “Economics of Marriage” and an empowerment programme.
BACCALAUREATE SERVICE
The 17th Baccalaureate service for 2017 graduating class was held on Sunday, 30th April, 2017. The event commenced at about 2:20pm with procession by the graduants to their seats. The occasion was graced by several members of the Church of Christ within and around Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The moderator was Bro. Adeoye Emmanuel and the song leader Bro. Olabanjo led the opening hymn. Then Bro. Etim Asuquo was called upon to render the opening prayer.
The President of the college read the lesson for the service which was taken from the book of Phillipians 2:12-18. Subsequently, he introduced the guest speaker for the occasion. The guest speaker was Bro. Essiet Alphonsus, a minister of Church of Christ Ojodu Lagos who was also an alumnus of the college.
He gave his charge to the graduating students speaking on the topic “The Light Bearers”. Thereafter, the counsecrational hymn “I’ll Live for Him” was sung and prayer sessions followed.
The service was brought to an end with a closing prayer given by Bro. faith Jonathan.
CAMPUS CHURCH
On the 23rd of April, 2017 three brethren were baptised into the Lord’s fold. Two of them were students from ICA in person of Bro. Simeon Obi and Sis. Fonon Ibrahim. The second brother was Bro. Junior Okanga who was preached to b y the students on practicum posted to the campus church.
RE-ACTIVATION OF LAWANSON CENTRE
The Lawanson centre in Lagos was re-activated late last year after the church at the centre signed a memorandum of understanding with the college. Subsequently, the entrance/recertification examination was conducted and students who were admitted commenced lectures on 31st of March, 2017. The turn-out was impressive as 17 students were in attendance on the first day of lectures.
